Notice of Funding Opportunity
The DNRC is excited to announce that funding has been secured from the State’s Fire Suppression Fund to help further the implementation of the Montana Forest Action Plan (MFAP) which identifies where priority forest treatments should be focused statewide. You can view the priority areas here. DNRC is requesting project pre-proposals that reduce wildfire risk and improve forest health on state, county, tribal, and private lands, as well as federal lands through the Good Neighbor Authority.
New Process
Pre-proposals are being solicited and treated as mandatory and qualifying to receive an invitation to submit a full application for the competitive, 2023 MFAP Grant. Before investing time and effort on the full application, pre-proposals are intended to concisely capture the intent and mechanisms of a project and will be screened for relevance, addressing MFAP priorities and priority areas, readiness of project activities, and applicant and project eligibility. Unless a proposed project is determined to be ineligible for grant funding, all RFP submissions will receive an invitation to submit a full application to the 2023 MFAP Grant.
Strong proposals will involve multiple collaborating partners, engaged in cross-boundary management to address at least one of the following through forest management and conservation actions: forest health; wildfire risk; working forests and economies; biodiversity and habitat; human and community health; urban and community forests. Additionally, projects should be implementation-ready and have a completion timeline not to exceed 24 months.
Funding Available
Funding requests should be a minimum of $50,000 and a maximum of $300,000. For multi-party applications, $500,000 is the cap. For the purposes of this RFP, multi-partymeans a project with more than one partner who will be receiving grant funding directly. The combined funding for all partners cannot exceed $500,000.
Info Session
There will be one informational session held over Microsoft Teams. Attendance or correspondence with staff is highly recommended.
