Montana Forest Action Council 2022-23 Summary Report
The Montana Forest Action Council (the Council) is a governor-appointed advisory committee assembled to oversee the implementation of theMontana Forest Action Plan. The Council has been working together since 2020 to promote efficient, effective, and coordinated cross-boundary efforts to address declining forest health and wildfire risk statewide. The Montana Forest Action Plan (p. 82) tasked this advisory group with publishing progress reports highlighting cross-boundary efforts across Montana. Attached is the Council’s first Summary Report, which includes an overview of the Council, field tour highlights, combined agency data, cross-boundary project highlights, as well as information about the Montana Forest Action Plan and Montana Department of Natural Resouces Stewardship Program grants.
The intended audience for this report is those engaged with cross-boundary land management efforts, including but not limited to agency staff, place-based collaboratives and forestry-related associations, Tribal forestry departments, counties, and forestry academics. If you are receiving this email, a Council member has identified you as an individual or entity that may be interested in the contents of this report.
As this is the Council’s first report, they are eager to hear feedback to support future iterations that capture relevant and interesting information. Please send feedback or suggestions for future versions to the Council’s facilitator, Maisie Powell. If you prefer, you can also submit feedback and suggestions through this form [forms.office.com]. The Council looks forward to supporting cross-boundary forestry efforts in Montana and the continued implementation of the Montana Forest Action Plan.
