DNRC is announcing the availability of funding for Local Government Forestry Assistance Grants for 2023. These grants provide funding for local governments to\u00a0support activities to accelerate the pace and scale of forest management to reduce wildland fire hazards, improve forest health, and enhance economic productivity on cross-boundary projects that include federal lands in Montana. Local governments, and collaborative groups<\/strong> with significant local government involvement, are eligible to apply.<\/p>\n

Activities to be funded include:\u00a0funding for a county forester or other county staff working on cross-boundary forest management;\u00a0travel for meetings or workshops that facilitate project implementation or increase knowledge of federal land management policies and procedures; hiring consultants and\/or contracted services to assist in collecting information, including GIS services; educating private landowners regarding work in the Home Ignition Zone and cross-boundary treatments; developing policies or communication materials to enhance use and management of natural resources; actions to help federal projects move forward more quickly; legal assistance for filing on projects that are litigated; and (lower priority for funding): increasing effective collaboration.<\/p>\n
